Have you ever purchaced a coin on Collectors Corner?

Was just looking through some of the listings there and wondering if anyone has ever bought or sold a coin there.

I never have and each time I go on the site, it quickly feels like a waste of time.

I wish it was better...I think it has a lot of potential.

I purchased one coin through Collectors Corner from Augustin Capital Management. I'll keep checking but too often the offerings are out of date.

PICTURES! Large photos of the coin would be a tremendous plus. Otherwise, how the heck do you know what your getting. Have yet to buy there.

I collect Mid Grade Barber Halves... tried to buy one on there, already sold.

The others on there that I needed at the time were so outrageously overpriced that I didn't even try

I also was able to pick up a few of my 1908-S Indian Cents in some of the harder to find grades for my grading set. By having a coin in your wishlist, you get automatic emails everytime that coin is listed in the Collector's Corner... seems to work pretty well in my opinion, but you do sometimes get duplicate emails when dealers refresh their listings of the same coin.

Complete waste of time IMO. If sellers would bother to post pics of the coins,I would be much more likely to purchase what they have for sale.

It is what it is, a single listing site. The best thing is the search for a given date/coin. After that, it’s up to each individual dealer to have pics, inventory up to date, etc. It’s just like herding cats, I mean coin dealers. It will never be much better than it was intended to be, any fancier, and the dealers will not want to pay higher listing fees, etc. But it works for me as its easier than looking at 50 dealersites.

I look often, but the only time I wanted to buy something it was already sold. The "wishlist" email notification software is buggy - it sends me an email almost every day, ostensibly notifying me that there is a new listing that meets my criteria, but it is always for the same coins, which have been listed for eternity...

Have got about ten or so but have found the prices tend to be steep. And image quality poor in may cases, not all but many use scans.
So I tend to of been searching for awhile before I pull the trigger on there.
Usually dealer web sites or other auction venues have better deals in my experience

I list coins there. I put big clear images and do pretty well.

It is a good way to search multiple dealers inventories at once. Making a decision on coins based on price alone (without pictures) is, I think, very difficult.

I upload my list at least once a week, but there is always a coin that sneaks in that was sold. That always seems to be the one that people call on. If I am listing a lot of new coins, I upload the list every day.

I sold four pieces yesterday and I am talking with someone right now about buying a very special piece. You must be looking at another BST.image
  • I haven't bought anything from there but I do search it often for kicks - never really ran across anything that caught my eye yet. Also it is a nice way to find new dealer websites to check more of their inventory that they may have not listed on CC.

My biggest pet peeves about it are the $1k+ coins listed without any images asking to "call for a description". Also, seeing the same exact coin listed 3 or 4 times with the same image is quite annoying.

Not directly from there, but I have purchased coins from dealers (JJTeaparty) who had them posted there.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Collector's Corner seems to be the place where dealers try to outdo each other with inflated pricing. Appears to be a complete waste of time looking there.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

What I've done is search for a specific coin on Collectors Corner. If I find one there that is interesting, I then just go direct to the dealers site (if they have one) or call them directly.

It is very important to keep up with your listings.
Make sure there is a picture, and a realistic price.

When you sell your coin,it has to be removed asap.

When I start listing there,I hope to be able to keep up with all my listings..
Just like ebay,it can be a full time job image

High prices, but it periodically tips me off to a new dealer I didn't know about previously. That being said, I never buy an item straight from a CCE listing. I call the dealer and ask if they can price it closer to reality.

Yeah, I purchased an 1808 half cent from Bellesario Rare Coins through Collectors Corner. That was at least 6 months ago, and last I checked a few weeks ago, it was still listed as sold. LOL

There are coins which I've purchased over a year ago which are still listed as available on the Collectors Corner image
  • EagleEyeEagleEye Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭✭✭
There needs to be a process that automatically delists coins that have not been refreshed for 1 month.

Typically, dealers put up their list and the old ones are automatically deleted/replaced. If a dealer has coins up over a year, that means he hasn't updated the list in that period. His listings should be taken down.

I bought a nice Walker from there a couple years ago.I agree that they are pretty steep and could use more pictures of their coins.
  • Hi,

I collect Gold Indian Head Half Eagles and bought a total of 3 PCGS graded coins I saw in Collectors Corners from 2 dealers. No problem with transactions and got quite good prices. All 3 coins were ourchased below Price Guide or Numismedia FMV.

    Cheers!

Have looked at Collectors Corner for years. Bought one coin a few years ago. Almost always, a coin I might be interested has an inadequate (or no) picture.
